Amponsah And Azuure Top Millennium Marathon 2019
William Amponsah run the fastest and best at the 2019 Millennium Marathon which ended at the Black Star Square on Saturday, September 7, 2019.
He clocked a time of 1hour, 06minutes and 22seconds to claim his third win this year in Marathon races in Ghana.
Young consistent runner, Azuure Elizabeth from the north of Ghana also put her name on the historic books of the Millennium Marathon with a time of 1:22:48 in the 21kilometer race.
William Amponsah Set A New Record At Accra Millennium Marathon
William Amponsah popularly know has ‘bones’ is a former student of Swedru School of Business(swesbus) and the golden boy from Agona Swedru Daakye Runners Club has done it again by breaking the Accra Millennium Marathon record.
He made the 21km race in a time of 1:04:38 which breaks the former records by Ishmael Arthur his teammate 1:05:25. and Akuka William 1:07:39 in 2018
William Amponsah who is undoubtedly the best marathon runner in West Africa now has caught many international attentions. Speaking to his manager Charles Abeiku-Forson, he disclosed that their vision is beyond our local terrain and for that matter, better steps will be taken to push the young gold winner far in the athletic world to make Ghana proud as a whole.
Speaking on his success, William Amponsah first gave the utmost gratitude to God Almighty, his management, teammates and fans especially the people of Agona Swedru for backing him up till now. He further said, he is eying for more challenging competitions both at home and abroad.
Amponsah lastly said to all parent and leaders in the society to support children when they show interest in running because it can bring more fortune to their family and the society as a whole.
Though there was an early shower during the race, organization was the best and the race director, Ambassador, Ashim Morton was impressed.
Nationals from different countries took part in the international annual event.
This year’s event was sponsored by GCB and other companies with the support of the Ministry of Youth & Sports and the NSA.
Meanwhile, managers on the winner, Amponsah are planning a package to raise his image as a top Ghanaian and African athlete and also enter him into some of the biggest marathon races in the world.
