The male national team of Ghana, the Black Stars have been handed a painful defeat by the Kenyan national team, the Harambee Stars. The host beat Ghana by a goal to nil this afternoon at the Kasarani Stadium in Kenya.

The Black Stars went into the match on top of Group F with three points and plus of five goals having hammered Ethiopia in the opening qualifying match in Ghana.

The home team started the match very well constantly playing long balls over the top for their pacey attackers to chase.

The Black stars pushed for an equalizer and created multiple opening but were unable to get clear-cut chances to covert. Kenya after coming close to opening the scoring eventually took the lead on the 40th minute courtesy an own goal from Ghanaian defender Nicholas Opoku.

Coach Kwasi Appiah made a substitution at halftime taking off Edwin Gyasi and bringing on Raphael Dwamena. An attacking change which was necessary to push for a comeback.

Joash Onyango received a red card on the 62nd minute after bringing down Majeed Waris. The Harambee stars were forced to finish the rest of the match with 10 men.

Despite the extra man, Kwasi Appiah’s men could not find an equalizer to even salvage a point out of the fixture. Kwadwo Asamoah came on midway through the second half to help restore parity for the Stars but to no avail.

The West African giants eventually succumbed to a one nil defeat to Kenya. The first half own goal handing all three points to the Harambee Stars.

Ghana remain on top of Group F with three points and four goals.

Kenya and Sierra Leone are in second and third with three points respectively. If Sierra Leone is able to beat Ethiopia in their next match, they will go top of the group.
