Ejisu by-election: NPP aspirant who projected less than 5 votes for Aduomi congratulates him for his showdown
LISTEN

Eric Amofa, a former NPP parliamentary candidate hopeful for the Asante Akim South has reacted following Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, an independent candidate's strong performance in the just-ended Ejisu by-election.

Describing Mr Aduomi's performance as shocking, the former MP aspirant said, he least expected Aduomi who is also the former NPP MP for Ejisu to secure such a massive vote. He however acknowledged and commended him for the performance he put up in the race.

In his submission, he attributed most of Mr. Aduomi's votes to the support given by the opposition NDC, citing apathy on the part of the ruling NPP members, which also contributed to the low voter turnout.

Now, attributing NDC's support as a contributory factor for Mr. Aduomi's performance in the just-ended by-election, could suggest that the NDC has appreciated in number, though it did not participate in the election.

Mr. Amofa who was then asked to give clarification on the above analogy in relation to what he earlier attributed, said, "yes, someone may think so, but, that is not accurate."

"You see, the NDC decided not to contest but throw full support for the independent candidate. One thing we also need to take note of is that every NDC member joined the queue on the day to cast a vote and they all voted for Mr. Aduomi. Let us also remember that the majority of the NPP members didn't vote during the by-election and this definitely affected the party's performance," he explained.

He further noted that his attributions were not meant to discredit Mr. Aduomi's performance, but, the reality on the grounds was that there was a significant apathy on the side of the NPP which boosted Mr Aduomi’s electoral gains.

Mr. Amofa had earlier said that he would be shocked if an independent candidate, Owusu Aduomi is able to secure even up to 5 percent of the total votes in the upcoming by-election. He had therefore called on the supporters of the New Patriotic Party to remain resolute since most of the tensions were caused by Mr. Owusu Aduomi only to scare voters.

"The election is not anything tough as has been projected. Aduomi is no match for the NPP. I'll be shocked if he secures 5 percent of the total votes, he has no grounds," he said.

He further revealed that he had been to Onwe, Kwamo, Ejisu among many other places and all indications were clear that the NPP man had already won the election.

Mr. Amofa has said, it was time the party got united and fought hard to ensure victory in 2024.

Suggesting solutions to curbing the recent apathy in Ejisu, Mr. Amofa said, it was high time the party leadership made sure everyone enjoy development projects.

Mr. Amofa who believes in reconciliation and unity, commended the Party's national chairman, Mr. Stephen Collins Ntim for his excellent remarks after the election. According to him, Mr. Ntim's call for the comeback of Mr. Aduomi was the best decision that must be supported by the party.

"It was time we desisted from saying things that will further push away people who want to leave the party due to some bitterness and a feeling of mistreatment," he stated.
