Essien spearheads Peace campaign

Ghana international Michael Essien has drawn up a tall list of stars to play in charity match to promote and raise the awareness of peace in Africa.

Essien, an Africa Union Peace Ambassador, is organising a match between an Africa XI and World XI.

The charity game, to help promote peace in Africa, is set to be played in the Accra, the Ghanaian capital on 25 May.

Essien will captain an African side that will include Goerge Weah, Abedi Pele and Roger Milla.

Essien's Chelsea team-mate Ashley Cole will captain the World XI, with England stars Sean Wright-Phillips and John Terry set to play.

Other former African stars who are set to feature include Ghana greats Tony Baffoe, Tony Yeboah, Sammy Kuffuor as well as Algeria's Raber Madjer.

Many current players like Samuel Eto'o, Didier Drogba, Nwankwo Kanu, Kolo and Yaya Toure, Salomon Kalou and Stephen Appiah have also confirmed they will be playing.

The game is part of Essien's commitment to raising the awareness of peace in Africa using football.

The funds raised from the game will be used to enhance peace initiatives across Africa.
