Minister wills Meteors to go for broke
April 06, 2011 Accra, April 6, GNA - Minister of Youth and Sports Mr Clement Kofi Humado has willed the Black Meteors to go for broke in their dicey Olympic Game qualifier against Sudan on Saturday.
The Meteors are faced with a must-win task in the meeting at Khartoum after losing 0-1 in the first leg at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra a fortnight ago and the Minister believes it is not a mission impossible.
Mr Humado told GNA Sports in a release that "the second leg in Sudan is not a mission impossible and I'm very confident that the Black Meteors will overturn the 0-1 defeat and eventually qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games."
The Minister described the first leg defeat in Accra as shocking to Ghanaian soccer lovers and therefore reminded the team on the need to up their game and qualify for the quadrennial meeting.
"Your participation in the 2012 Olympic Games is very important to Ghana since it will give you the players the platform to rub shoulders with some of the best teams in the world and eventually put Ghana in a better stead to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil."
Mr Humado assured the team of government's support and commitment towards their successful campaign.
Ghana must beat Sudan to progress to the next stage of the qualifier after losing 0-1 in Accra a fortnight ago.
The Meteors failed to qualify for the Beijing event in 2008 after succumbing to Nigeria.
