Muntari injury rocks Ghana

Muntari could be out for long Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari has added to the injury woes of his country after suffering a serious-looking injury on Sunday night.

The 23-year-old, who plays for Italian side Inter Milan, was carried off on a stretcher in the 53rd minute of their clash with Genoa with an apparent thigh muscle problem.

Further tests will be carried out on the midfielder on Monday to determine the exact extent of injury.

The absence of Muntari has handed coach Jose Mourinho a headache in midfield.

With Patrick Vieira, Esteban Cambiasso and Luis Jimenez already out, he has now lost Muntari as well.

"He certainly won't be available on Wednesday (away to Fiorentina). We've got a lot of problems in central midfield at the moment," he added.

Muntari's injury is the latest of the growing number of Ghana's key players on the injury list as the Black Stars prepare for the second phase of the World Cup qualifiers.

Deputy captain John Mensah, enforcer Michael Essien, striker Asamoah Gyan and midfielder Laryea Kingston are all nursing injuries.

Essien is expected to be back in January while Mensah and Gyan are expected to return to action next month.

Kingston's injury is minor as he is expected to regain his fitness by this week from a muscle sprain.
