Appiah lands in Italy for crucial checks

The Black Stars ace arrived in Turin for further tests on complications from the surgery he had on his knee five months ago.

Speculation was rife that the condition could prevent the Fenerbahce star from leading his country when they host the African Cup of Nations next month.

But Appiah opted for further medical exmination in Italy to determine whether he is safe to play at the tournament which starts on 20 January.

The midfielder had tests in Turkey on Thursday morning befroe departing for Italy and he was pleased with the prognosis in Istanbul.

"I am happy with what the doctors told me before I left Turkey this morning because they say there is a massive improvement," Appiah told Ghanasoccernet.com .

"I am meeting the Italian specialists on tomorrow and hopefully they can give a clear picture for me to make public."

Appiah is a key players for Ghana in their quest for a fifth title and his absence will be a blow for the west African country.
