About 17 motor cyclists from the sub-region including six from host, Ghana, will feature in the Second Accra International Motocross races on Sunday at an oval near Ashaley Botwe in Accra.

The competitors are expected to undertake a trial test on the new tracks constructed under the auspices of the Accra Motor Club tomorrow.

The new tracks are to enhance speed and spectacular jumps.

Mr Kwabena Asamoah, a representative of Promasidor, whose product Cowbell Choco-malt is the main sponsor, told a press conference in Accra yesterday that the event would also feature current Ivorian champion, Pascal Vigneron.

Also in line to wrest the title from the maiden champion, 17-year-old Peter-Peirrot Fovilleroni, are Michel Nanga from Togo and Guillaume Adeline of Burkina Faso.

Five cyclists from Togo, two from Cote d'Ivoire, one from Burkina Faso, three from Benin and Ghana's six have all confirmed their participation. Mr Asamoah, however, said there were indications that the number could increase by close of work today.

The tracks are constructed in such a way that the cyclists will go through muddy surfaces, pool of water and small hills, among others, as witnessed during the Dakar races before a true champion is declared.

The off-road motocross race is being organised under the umbrella of the Accra Motor Club and sponsored by Promasidor in collaboration with Pens and Plastics Ghana Limited and Surf Publications.
