The Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Evans Bobie Opoku, expressed uncertainty regarding the timeline for the disbursement of bonuses to Ghana's medalists from the 2023 African Games.

Prior to the commencement of the games, the Ministry of Sports had pledged financial rewards for medal-winning athletes, with a gold medal earning $3,000, silver $2,000, and bronze $1,000.

A joint press conference held by the Local Organizing Committee and the sports ministry at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium aimed to extend gratitude to athletes and the nation for the successful games.

During the event, Bobie Opoku acknowledged the complexity of the process involved in distributing bonuses, stating, "It's a process. You know Ghana, if you work in the public sector you don't just stand up and go and pick money."

He emphasized that while he could not provide a specific timeframe for payment as he lacked the authority to approve it, he assured the public that efforts were underway to secure approval and ensure the athletes received their dues.

Ghana concluded the games with a record-breaking medal tally of 69, surpassing its previous best of 27 medals in 1973.
