Tariq Lamptey says it will be exciting to feature at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and win the trophy with the Black Stars.

Ghana are on the verge of securing qualification for the continent's most prestigious tournament that is scheduled to be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.

The Black Stars who sit top of Group E with 8 points will regroup next week for their matchday five games against Madagascar.

Lamptey who made his debut against Brazil in a friendly ahead of the World Cup and featured against Portugal and South Korea at the Mundial is yet to feature under new Black Stars coach, Chirs Hughton.

The Brighton and Hove Albion defender has been nursing an injury he suffered against West Ham.

However, Lamptey has expressed his excitement about the prospects of playing in the AFCON, acknowledging the necessity of securing qualification and maintaining competitive form through league games.

"I am very excited [about the prospect of playing at the AFCON]. Obviously, there are a few steps before that — qualification first and league games. I have to play to get myself into a competitive form,” he said in the interview as reported by Citi Sports.

“But it’s an amazing competition and the ultimate goal will be to go and lift it. It will be amazing to play there and experience it and hopefully, we can do well," he added.

Ghana will open camp on June 12 before flying to Madagascar for the game on June 18.
