Taritimiye Gagariga a Nigerian Army General, chiseled his name in the stone of history as the only General in Nigeria Army who is passionate about the growth of volleyball at the lowest level, which is the grassroots.
Before Major General Taritimiye Gagariga became the board member of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, his penchant and love for volleyball had commenced very long time ago when he made handsome financial donations and kits to various volleyball teams across the country.
Findings by this writer revealed that the strongest attribute of Major General Taritimiye Gagariga’s philanthropy is its non-discriminatory nature.
Interviews revealed that both Muslims, Christians and residents from different ethnic backgrounds benefit from General Gagariga’s philanthropy.
Major General Taritimiye Gagariga is silently and steadily putting a smile on the faces of many youths, and building peace in the country through volleyball talent hunt. What an exceptional feat!
Going memory lane, Major General Taritimiye Gagariga as a detribalized Nigerian instituted and bankrolled many volleyball competitions garnishing them with mouthwatering redemption and organization fees and glittering giant gold cups and trophies.
The recipe for the success of the sports competitions which he sponsored were that, despite his tight schedule as an accomplished Nigerian Army General, he is always in attendance in the opening and closing ceremonies.
It is on good record that Major General Taritimiye Gagariga organized grassroots competition for volleyball talent hunt in the Nigerian Army School of Artillery Kachia and Zaria both in Kaduna State. A similar competition was held in Kontagora, Niger State, Abuja the FCT Capital, Plateau and Bauchi States respectively, where similar competitions were organised to ensure that youths, who are yet to have the opportunity to participate in the centralised top level volleyball competitions in the country would have an avenue to play the game in their various localities.
No wonder the serious affection and unprecedented love volleyball enthusiasts had for him is unquantifiable.
Major General Taritimiye Gagariga’s deep-rooted interest in sports, especially in volleyball earned him appointment as board member of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation.
General Gagariga’s foresight, dedication, intelligence, hardwork, charisma, aura and encyclopedic knowledge in volleyball coupled with his track record of support, has placed him first among equals. He is a Jewel of inestimable value to volleyball fraternity in Nigeria and should be given total support by all.
