Cup of Nations 2021 AFCON: Kudus Mohammed to team up with Black Stars teammates today in Yaounde
JAN 12, 2022 LISTEN

Ajax Amsterdam midfielder, Kudus Mohammed is expected to join his Black Stars teammates today in Yaounde for the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON].

Modernghana.com Sports desk on Tuesday reported that the 21-year-old has been cleared medically by the Dutch club to join Ghana.

Ajax were initially reluctant to release the attacking midfielder as they claimed Kudus was unfit to play after his recent recovery from a rib injury.

Kudus hasn’t kicked a ball in the last six weeks and is currently recuperating but was named in Ghana’s 28-man squad for the AFCON.

The former FC Nordsjaelland forward has not played since suffering the injury in November during Ghana's final game of the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against South Africa at the Cape Coast Stadium.

However, Milovan Rajevac included Kudus in his final 28-man squad, believing the playmaker will regain fitness and be allowed to play.

Kudus’ imminent arrival is a big boost for the team following Monday’s loss to Morocco in Yaoundé.

Last week, Kudus began light training with his club after travelling with the team to Portugal for their mid-season training.

However, Kudus is likely to face Gabon on Friday and Comoros on Tuesday, both of which must be won by the Black Stars to avoid a shock first-round exit.
