StarTimes, the television rights holders of the Ghana Premier League (GPL), have announced an enhanced package for the 2021/22 season.

The new season’s offering promises a wide viewing experience to both free-to-air and subscribers of the Pay-TV provider.

Last season saw StarTimes produce 123 GPL and 10 FA Cup games for TV.

This term, a total of 150 live matches will be aired this season with at least 4-5 games per match-day, Marketing manager of StarTimes Ghana Akorfa Benson disclosed during the season launch by the GFA on Tuesday.

“As Television rights holders of the Ghana Premier League, our objective is to attract the attention of the football fans and increase the commercial clout of the GPL to raise its commercial value on television.

“For the 2021/22 season, StarTimes will deliver a much bigger television production and broadcasts.

“With our modern sports broadcast solutions, we will provide viewers with live player tracking and stunning augmented reality graphics that will help viewers better understand the strategies of the game and to provide the ultimate story-telling experience for our viewers,” she stated

Arkofa Benson then added: “StarTimes will invest over $1million in the production and promotion of the competition.

“StarTimes will, in this season, broadcast 150 live games on television with an average of 4-5 live games per match-day. StarTimes shall also make available one live game on free-to-air Max TV to improve the exposure of the league…”

StarTimes will kick off their coverage with Accra Lions’ home match with Elmina Sharks on Friday, October 29. Game is scheduled for 18:00 GMT. The Dreams FC vs Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak vs Legon Cities opening day games on Saturday and Sunday respectively will also be on TV.

In January 2020, StarTimes signed a new five-year agreement with the GFA worth $5.25 million to be the exclusive Television Rights owner of the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup. The deal runs through to the end of the 2023/24 season.
