Ashanti Gold SC talisman, Appiah McCarthy says he is optimistic the team will defeat Asante Kotoko to bag maximum points this weekend when the two teams lock horns.

The two clubs from the Ashanti Region will renew their rivalry on Sunday in what promises to be an interesting contest on matchday 11 of the ongoing 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season.

Unfortunately for Appiah McCarthy, he has not recovered from the injury he suffered last weekend when Ashanti Gold SC lost 5-2 to Legon Cities FC at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In his absence, the midfielder says he expects whoever is called to play his role to do so to perfection to help the team cruise to victory against the Ashanti rivals.

“I’m confident that any player that will be assigned to play my role can do and do it better. I think the fans should expect the three points come Sunday,” Appiah McCarthy said as quoted on footballghana.com.

The highly-rated midfielder added, “I believe the three points will remain at Obuasi because, since our President, Dr. Kwaku Frimpong took over the club, Kotoko have not recorded any win in Obuasi and we hoping to maintain that record. Those of us who will not be in action will support them in prayers.”

The big game has been scheduled to be played on Sunday at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium and will kick off at 15:00GMT.
