Former Ghana international, Derek Boateng has advised young players to stay away from social media and rather concentrate fully on their football career.

Boateng, 37, started off his career with Ghana Premier League side Liberty Professionals as a very young player before eventually going on to play for as many as 12 different clubs, most of them abroad.

Having hanged his boots after a good career that saw him playing for the Black Stars, he has a simple message for young players who have taken up football as their profession.

According to Derek Boateng, young players should avoid social media, stay away from trouble, get closer to God, and concentrate on the path they have chosen if they want to be successful.

“My advice for young players are that they should stay away from social media, concentrate, play well, have a good rest, stay away from trouble and pray so that God will open doors for them”, the former Getafe midfielder told Joy Sports on Saturday.

He added, “The social media is destroying so many young players and they are not concentrating. During my time, right after a game, we go back and think about the game, we play the game inside our head again and make sure that we don’t make mistakes in the next one but right now we see people post things. Their concentration is very little.”

During his career, the combative midfielder played for clubs such as Rayo Vallecano, Fulham, 1. FC Köln, AIK, Panathinaikos, and others.
