Isaac Nyante, also known as 'Alonso', a 26-year-old welder, who conspired with two others to kill a cab driver and robbed him of his taxi, in the year 2012, has been sentenced to 73 years' jail term, by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

'Alonso', who has been on the run since the crime was committed, was arrested by the police on March 4, 2017, to face the law.

His two accomplices, Gyapong Bismark, alias 'Mobee' (second accused) and Kwaku Adusei or 'Okonko', (third accused), had already been convicted on June 6, 2012, and currently serving their sentences of 30 years each.

'Alonso' pleaded guilty to the charge of murder and the Court presided over by Madam Patricia Amponsah, convicted him on his own plea.

Police Chief Inspector Timothy Amoako, prosecuting, told the Court that the convict on May 8, 2012, at about 2000 hours, together with the two, at Ejisu engaged the services of Yaw Asafo Agyei (the murdered taxi driver), to convey them in his Opel Agila taxi to Asante Juabeng.

The Convict, he said sat in front while the two sat behind and on reaching a dark, bushy area along the Ejisu-juaben route, Alonso after instructing the driver to stop, pulled him out of the taxi, held his neck and strangled him to death.

The third accused held the deceased's two legs.

The Court further heard that, convicts then carried the dead body in the taxi and dumped it in an old pit latrine belonging to the Juabeng, M/A primary school.

The next morning, the townsfolks, upon sighting the dead body, made a report to the police at Ejisu, who took it to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

Chief inspector Amoako said on May 16, 2012, the taxi cab was retrieved and after a post-mortem had been performed on the body, it was released to the family of the deceased for burial.

Second and third accused were later arrested and put before Court but 'Alonso' managed to escape.

He was however arrested on March 04, 2017 and in his caution statement admitted the offence.
