School Feeding Programme Get Support

GHL Bank has donated 10,000 bowls to the Ghana School Feeding Programme to be distributed to children in deprived communities. The move is part of the bank's Corporate Social Responsibility mandate, geared towards supporting disadvantaged communities in and around areas where the bank operates.

In a statement issued to the GNA, Mrs. Sylvia Adadey, Supervisor for Corporate Communications and Brand Management at GHL Bank, who presented the items, said, the GHL Banks was interested in supporting the education and the wellbeing of children, particularly in deprived areas, since they were key to the development of the nation.

'We saw a dire need in this area as the programme struggles with distributing food to children due to logistical challenges such as lack of bowls,' she noted.

Mrs. Gertrude Quashigah, Coordinator for the School Feeding Programme, expressed delight and gratitude at the bank's gesture, saying, 'We are so excited about this donation and thank GHL Bank for meeting this need. The bowls will be distributed to selected schools in the Volta, Central, Ashanti and Greater Accra regions where they will go a long way to alleviate some of the operational hitches faced by some schools under the programme'.

She also called on other corporate bodies to assist the programme, stating that no offer of help is too small.

The School Feeding Programme was launched in 2005 with the goal of contributing to poverty reduction and increased food security in Ghana. The key objectives include malnutrition and hunger reduction for school children, increase in enrolment, attendance and retention and boosting domestic food production. These objectives align closely with the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) surrounding hunger, poverty, and primary education.
