FDA Awards ABL With HACCP Certification

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has awarded Accra Brewery Limited (ABL), a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABInBev), the world's largest brewer, a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification at a ceremony held on ABL's premises.

HACCP is an internationally recognised food safety tool which enables food safety hazards to be identified, evaluated, and controlled, to eliminate the risk of contamination at any point in the food production process.

ABL through its own initiative sought assistance from FDA in order to effectively implement the programme.

The FDA provided ABL with technical assistance and coaching through its Food Industrial Support Services unit.

Mr. Philip Redman, ABL Country Director expressed his gratitude to FDA and explained that 'this recognition by the FDA is a clear manifestation of our commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and health at our plant'.

Mr. Redman further stated that, 'we are led by our dream of bringing people together for a better world, and this ensures that we prioritize consumer health and safety in our line of business.

'Also, integrity, hard work, quality, and responsibility are key drivers used in our company and we believe that this reaffirms our commitment towards producing a diverse portfolio of high quality brands to suit every palate'.

Mr. Redman said, 'our primary aim with the implementation of this policy is to increase consumer and stakeholder confidence in our products and also to enhance market accessibility of our products.

'We are also able to maintain a cost-effective control system, facilitate regulatory inspections, and consistently and reliably produce safe food'.

On behalf of the CEO of the FDA, Mrs. Delese Mimi Darko, the Acting Deputy Chief Executive and Divisional Head of the Medical Devices, Cosmetics and Household Chemicals Unit of the FDA, Mrs. Akua Amartey, congratulated ABL on achieving the milestone.

Mrs. Amartey assured ABL of FDA's continued collaboration to ensure that safe beverage is produced for consumers, as well as assisting the business to manage and sustain the HACCP tool.

The implementation of HACCP forms part of ABL's commitment to investing in a Healthier World where every experience with beer is positive.
