Government of Ghana risks losing huge sums of money due to smuggling of agricultural inputs to neighboring countries, leadership of Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana has hinted.

According to the national president, Nana Obodie Opambour Boateng Bonsu II, members have picked information that agriculture inputs meant for modernizing crop production in the country are being smuggled to neighboring countries under surveillance of security agencies.

Speaking to mynewsgh.com, the president bemoaned the continuous falling standard of agricultural in Ghana under past and present government.

According to him, some appointees have connived with civil servants at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to smuggle government’s subsidized fertilizer to farmers in Ivory Coast and other countries at a higher prices.

“I know individuals persons at the ministry who connived with appointees in this current administration to smuggle the subsidized fertilizer at high cost to other countries” Nana Obodia Obambour alleged.

He also took swipe to attack the system currently in distribution of the government’s subsidies fertilizer from that of already ones on market.

The Association admonished the ministry to involve their members in the distribution of the subsidized fertilizers while calling on government to distinguish the subsidies ones on the market.
