Accra, March 22, GNA - The Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, on Tuesday inaugurated a 15-member Forest Plantation Investment Forum, to lead efforts in creating a more enabling environment for investments in forest plantations.

The group is also to promote the interest of investors and lead in influencing legal, policy and administrative reforms that will facilitate the achievement of the stated objectives under the Ghana Forest Plantation Strategy.

Mr Afriyie said it had become imperative to take concrete steps to actualize the intended actions specified in the strategic documents to ensure achievement of the set goals and targets.

He said the promotion of investments in forest plantations was a sure way of ensuring sustainable management of the forests.

Mr Afriyie pledged the Forestry Commission's support to ensure that the forum was well resourced to be able to work effectively to bring about the expected developments in the Forest Plantation sub-sector.

He lauded the World Bank for providing the initial support, under the Forest Investment Programme, towards the establishment and coordination of the activities of the forum.

Professor Dan Ofori, Chairman of the Forum, said the group would do all it could to attract investment into forest plantation for the benefit of the current and future generations.
