World Vision, a Christian International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has provided books to school-children in primary schools in the Kintampo South District of the Brong Region to encourage them to read.

In all, 30,000 pupils from over 100 schools are to benefit from 47,226 reading books donated by the international NGO.

The Northern Sector Manager of World Vision, Pious Naah, who handed over the books to the Kintampo South District Education Directorate for onward distribution to the schools, said the books are meant to improve reading and writing skills of pupils, especially those in deprived schools.

He advised teachers to organize pupils into groups for reading purposes.

He said to ensure effective reading, 100 teachers are also going to receive training on reading skills.

Mr Naah further said the books should also be given to the children to send home for their parents to assist them.

The organization also donated tablets, computers and other toys to the toddlers in the various schools.

Teachers in the beneficiary schools were implored to help the children to take good care of the books.

The District Education Director, Alhaji Yussif Imoro, thanked World Vision for the support and pledged to personally ensure that beneficiary schools encourage the pupils to use them positively.

He said BECE performance in the district for sometime has not been encouraging, but failed to give the latest figures.
