The MTN Foundation has unveiled the trailblazing ‘MTN Heroes of Change’ season 3 of the project to reward the exceptional works of hardworking individuals who are impacting lives in their communities with their own resources.

The Corporate Services Executive, Mrs. Cynthia Lumor said three years ago the Foundation decided to encourage the spirit of giving back by acknowledging and rewarding the works of ordinary people within their communities, who, of their own accord, commit their energies and resources to brighten the lives of people.

She added that the whole idea of the project is to encourage other Ghanaians to emulate the good examples of these change makers, empower the people to pursue their vision and aspirations and create awareness and support pressing social issues that need urgent redress.

According to her, a grand prize of Ghc100,000 will be awarded to the ultimate winner of the 2016 MTN Heroes of Change whiles the winners for the categories of health, education and economic empowerment will be selected and awarded with Ghc20,000 each and the remaining six finalists will be awarded Gh5,000 each to support their work.

Mrs. Lumor indicated that this year’s event which is marked under the theme “Who is your Hero of Change?” is a 13-week television series which will be broadcasted live.

She noted that the Foundation is introducing another two new initiatives as part of the MTN Heroes of Change project to increase public participation and support.

Mrs. Cynthia Lumor stated that in addition to the prizes MTN will reward, the public will also get the opportunity to support the work of their favourite nominees by making donations through Mobile Money.

She added that they are introducing the concept of 'MyHero’ campaign that will allow people to recognize individuals who are touching the lives of others in little ways.

According to her, the project will run exclusively on social media specifically on a Facebook page where individuals will be invited to post pictures of ‘MyHeroes’ on the MTN Facebook page with a short description of what they do and the one whose posts gets the most likes will get the a special mention and branded prizes at the final event.

Mrs. Cynthia Lumor announced that nomination is opened till September 20, 2016 and individuals are encouraged to identify people in their communities who have done exceptionally well for others and nominate them to be honoured as Heroes of Change.

She emphasized that after the collection of entries, the projects submitted will be reviewed and 10 people will be shortlisted by a panel of judges and thereafter, a team will be dispatched into the communities to verify the projects.
