We Were Told Lies About Alan As Polling Station Officers Reveal In Upper East Region
26.09.2014 LISTEN

Polling Station officers of the New Patriotic Party say they are astonished by the level of hate words incited against an NPP Presidential aspirant, Alan Kyerematen by some members of the party. They wonder why persons who claim to be part of the NPP brandish lies aimed at tarnishing the image of the leading member because of the upcoming internal elections. According to them this development could divide the party.

In about 3 weeks, some 141,000 NPP delegates including polling station officers and electoral area coordinators are expected to choose a flag bearer who will lead the party to wrestle power in 2016. There have been calls from some elite of the party, asking Alan Kyerematen and Addai Nimo to step aside for Nana Addo to go unopposed.

In an interview with some of the polling station officers, they revealed that several interactions with their superiors to solicit information on the qualities of Mr Kyerematen has not been forthcoming whilst others aver they received feedback that clearly paints Mr Kyerematen negatively. The officers are of the assertion that some level of apathy has been created by this occurrence which in turn did affect their perceptions about the presidential aspirant. They made the revelation when Alan Kyerematen held mini rallies for delegates in the Upper East Region.

After listening to Mr Kyerematen's campaign message, the remorseful officers believe he is the one who can bring the NPP back to power in 2016, adding that they cannot afford to losing once again in 2016 after failing to come to power in 2008 and 2012. To them the 2008 and 2012 elections were the easiest for the NPP to have won. They however expressed their readiness to throw their weight behind Mr Kyerematen.

Spokesperson for the group and a Polling station Chairman, Desmond Anyebatinga said, 'Previously we were working against the wish of the people in our community because of the message we had heard about Alan. They will always advise us to present Alan but we thought it was a ploy but today, having heard the history of Alan and his contributions to NPP and Ghana, we are resolved to present him for the October 18 polls because we want one touch Power. Alan represents hope and we are glad that he sees us as major stakeholders of the Party”

“His promise to work with the grassroots level and making sure that all members in the Electoral College are involved in endorsing a flag bearer is welcoming. He is the right candidate for us. We are going to propagate the good message from Alan Kyerematen to the others who could not make it here.” James Peter, a youth Organiser also asserted.

The officers said he has the physical attributes and the requisite skills to solve the challenges that fraught the nation. They also advised Alan Kyerematen to sell his message of Hope to all trusting that the good Lord will crown their efforts to change the negative perceptions people were made to believe about him.
