Obinim Apologises For Behaviour At Hot FM

The Founder and General Overseer of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has apologised to his congregation and the entire nation for his alleged vandalisation of the studios of Hot FM, an Accra-based radio station and assault on some of its staff.

He said he had acted out of ignorance of the law and, therefore, pleaded for forgiveness from all Ghanaians, promising never to act in such manner again.

Bishop Obinim said he did know that if someone made negative comments about someone, the person was not permitted by the to go and ask questions in the manner he did.

“It will not happen again”, a remorseful-looking Bishop Obinim declared in front of hundreds of his congregation who had thronged the auditorium of the church at Ashaley Botwe in the Adentan municipality to solidarise with their spiritual leader who had come under media spotlight for some negative reasons.

Unperturbed by the media and public backlash at their bishop, members of the church, who had been rallied from all parts of the country, sang, clapped and danced in support of Bishop Obinim, while chanting slogans like “No shaking!” and “Swagger papa!”

Last Monday, Bishop Obinim, accompanied by two of his pastors, was alleged to have stormed the studios of Hot FM, an Accra-based radio station, in the middle of a programme to assault the host and vandalise the studio.

His intention of visiting the radio station, he explained, was to ask the host of the programme why he did not seek his (Obinim’s) side of a story about his alleged sexual escapades, which were being discussed on the programme.

When the Daily Graphic arrived at the church premises at Ashaley Botwe around 12:15pm, the members were engrossed in fervent prayers to strengthen their faith in God and the church in the face of what they considered to be “spiritual trials” of their bishop.

Demonstrating their unbridled loyalty to Bishop Obinim, some of the members retorted; “Let him cast a stone, he who has not sinned”, in reference to the Biblical story in which Jesus Christ had dared anyone who had not sinned to throw a stone at the Samarian prostitute.

Others also remarked that if everyone, including Ministers of State, would confess their sins openly just as Bishop Obinim had done, Ghana and the world would be a better place to live. They said it was, therefore, unfair to scandalise the bishop for confessing his sins openly.

The apology rendered by Bishop Obinim preceded a press briefing by the leadership of the church “to clear the air” on issues pertaining to Bishop Obinim’s sexual escapade.

The Public Relations Officer of the church, Mr Issaka Zakari, who read the statement on behalf of the leadership, said it was no longer a secret that Bishop Obinim, although gifted with the power of the Holy Spirit to teach, heal and prophesy, “fell prey to what many theologians call the first sin” some years ago.

He said the bishop had since consecrated himself of the sin, having cried and asked for forgiveness from God, who was all-forgiving.

“My brothers and sisters, let me remind ourselves again that, indeed, the bishop is as human as all of us and equally as human as Adam, King David, King Solomon and Samson, hence his frailty to fall prey to that sin he committed.

“However, the most important issue is for one to rise again quickly as you fall prey to sin as admonished by Jesus Christ”, he said.

Mr Zakari said although Bishop Obinim was currently suffering all kinds of humiliation from humans, “to God our maker, his spiritual strength is being renewed by the tick of the clock for his genuine confession and onward spiritual soldiering”.

He apologised to the management and staff of Hot FM for the actions of Bishop Obinim, but urged the media to practice responsible journalism.
