THE PRESIDENT of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs (BARHC) and the Paramount Chief of Kukuom, Osabarimma Kwaku Aterkyi III yesterday made his maiden appearance at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the official seat of the Asantehene.

His visit comes barely 48 hours after Otumfuo threatened to kidnap Techimanhene, Nana Akumfi Ameyaw and deal with him ruthlessly just as he did to the Tuobodomhene, Nana Asare Baffuor.

It was rumoured on Tuesday that the President of BARHC and a host of other chiefs from Brong Ahafo region who owe allegiance to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II would visit Manhyia palace on Wednesday to confer with him as part of measures to broker lasting peace between Asanteman and Techiman.

This information perhaps drew a good number of curious people from Kumasi and its surrounding areas to the Manhyia Palace, but the Techiman/Tuobodom chieftaincy saga was not mentioned at the meeting that lasted for many hours.

Osabarimma Aterkyi III, who owes allegiance to the Golden Stool, sat at the left side of Otumfuo who also sat in state and duly participated in the meeting of the Asanteman Council just as he usually does.

When DAILY GUIDE asked the BARHC President about what the house was doing to ensure peace at Tuobodom and Techiman, he said, “We are behind the scenes trying our best to ensure peace, but I cannot come public until I brief Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“Otumfuo is my overlord and tradition demands that in cases of this nature I officially come to brief him about the whole issue to find lasting solution.”

“I am supposed to meet Otumfuo at his official residence today to ask for a date that a committee of chiefs from BARHC can come and officially confer with him with regards to bringing peace to Tuobodom and Techiman.”

On the exact date that the delegation of chiefs from the Brong Ahafo would meet with Otumfuo, he said, “The Asantehene, who is our overlord, is supposed to give a date that is suitable for him.”

Osabarrimma Kwaku Atterkyi III implored the media to be circumspect with their reportage so as to avoid inflaming tempers which can threaten the peace of the country.
