Kwesi Pratt Jnr., has said, the Electoral Commission's (EC) decision to abandon the proposed Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) that sought to make the Ghana Card the sole identification document for this year’s election is a step in the right direction.

The EC, following an Inter-party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting chaired by Jean Mensa, the EC Chairperson, with her deputies Dr. Eric Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey, have opted to retain the guarantor system as part of the voter registration process.

This suggests a departure from the earlier proposal, ensuring that the Ghana Card will not be the sole document for verifying voters' eligibility.

Additionally, the decision to maintain the use of indelible ink in the electoral process was among the key agreements reached during the IPAC meeting.

While speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper lauds the EC's change of mind.

He stated, "I am elated that the Commission has heeded, in particular, my calls not to go by their new order."

Pratt believes that the EC's commitment to retaining indelible ink and other identification methods during the elections “will strengthen our democracy and eliminate election conflicts.”
