Over 40,000 residents of Ejura and its environs in the Ashanti Region have access to clean portable water following the construction of a GH¢15 million Water Supply Project in the area.

The water supply project formed part of Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie II's initiative to end water crises in the fast growing area.

Prior to the initiation of the project, Barimah Osei Hwedie II had constructed ten boreholes for some communities in Ejura who were sharing streams with animals.

Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II upon completion of the boreholes saw the need to extend portable water supply to the entire Ejura enclave and so contacted the incumbent government for support.

Source of Funding
The Government of Ghana through the Community Water and Sanitation Agency commenced the re-construction of the Ejura Community Water supply which had not been operational for years due to faulty taps and non-coverage pipelines in 2022.

The project financed by the Government of Ghana with support from German Bank is now 90 per cent complete affording over 40,000 people access to clean portable water supply in the area.

Ejurahene's Tour of the Project
Barimah Osei Hwedie II on Friday February 23, 2024 toured the project sites to inspect the ongoing works.

As part of the tour, the renowned chief visited sites and homes where water were flowing from their pipes for the first time.

Speaking to this reporter after the tour, Barimah Osei Hwedie II thanked the vice president of Ghana Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia for ensuring the project sees the light of the day.

"This initiative by the government particularly Dr Bawumia has touched thousands lives in an unimaginable ways, for us at Ejura we will always be grateful to the government particularly the Vice president, Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia," he said.

Supply Capacity
A staffer at the National Community Water and Sanitation Madam Theodora Adomako Agyei who was part of the tour said the project will have 51 kilometres distribution and transmission pipelines, 40 standpipes, 12 mechanized boreholes and one high level tank.

She added that, the project will supply 10,000 cubic metres of water daily to households in Ejura.

Some residents after seeing water flowing in their homes expressed gratitude to the Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie II for his selfless leadership

They commended him for leading such worthy course adding that, Barimah Osei Hwedie II's name will be written in gold for posterity to appreciate his good efforts.
