If Dr. Bawumia were President, Gabby Otchere Darko would be a Minister and Ofori-Atta retained

On 4^th November 2023, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was elected as the Flagbearer and leader of the governing NPP Party in a foregone victory for him in the NPP’s National Delegates Conference.

It was well-known fact that Dr. Bawumia was the establishment Presidential candidate because President Akufo-Addo and his close cousins like Gabby Otchere Darko, ‘de facto Prime Minister of Ghana’, and Ken Ofori-Atta, Finance Minister as well as the appointees of the President were solidly behind his candidature.

The creation of the Butterfly Movement by the former Trade Minister, Alan Kyeremanteng largely stemmed from this credible perception of Dr. Bawumia as the establishment candidate then.

Fast forward, if Dr. Bawumia were a President of Ghana in the December 2024 General elections, Gabby Otchere Darko would be a Minister and Ofori-Atta retained. You think it is possible?

Here is why this is very possible in the unlikely event that Ghanaians decide to vote for Dr. Bawumia this year to be President.

It was no secret that Gabby Otchere Darko and Ken Ofori-Atta were solidly behind Dr. Bawumia’s Presidential candidature. The influence and actions of Gabby and Ofori-Atta are known with respect to botched Agyapa and PDS scandals and mismanagement of the economy in Ghana respectively.

Despite the historic win of Dr. Bawumia within the NPP Party, his credibility crisis is fertile ground for his defeat in the upcoming Presidential race at the end of this year.

Dr. Bawumia’s credibility deficit and his unquestionable loyalty to President Akufo-Addo mean that he will want to please his boss, Nana Akufo-Addo and his family despite their uninspiring records if he were voted to be President of Ghana.

Therefore, the possibility of Gabby Otchere Darko to be a Minister and Ken Ofori-Atta to be retained as a Finance Minister after Akufo-Addo’s regime is extremely high if Ghanaians make any mistake to vote for Dr. Bawumia!

President Akufo-Addo’s appalling records coupled with his insensitivity to the plights of Ghanaians do not merit any consideration from Ghanaian Voters in the upcoming General elections. Voting for Dr. Bawumia is voting for the third term of President Akufo-Addo, who exhibited poor and intimidating leadership in government.

The worsening living conditions and stagnation of the progress of Ghana can only be reversed when there is a change of government through the ballot this year.

Ghana has been short-changed by this kakistocratic and nepotistic regime of Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia. Therefore, voting for Dr. Bawumia means that Ken Ofori-Atta will still stay in office like Nana Akufo-Addo who has kept his cousin, the censored Finance Minister by Parliament in place and Gabby may be considered as a Minister under the hypothetical Bawumia's regime.

Dr. Bawumia was favored in the NPP Presidential race to protect the bad records of Nana Akufo-Addo and cover up the scandals of his regime. Dr. Bawumia and the governing NPP Party have no creditble message for Ghanaians after an unsatisfactory show of leadership and sticking to the social contract entered with Ghanaians in 2016. Ghana, thus, deserves better governance than this disappointing Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government now.
