The spate at which the Ministry of Education is interdicting heads of SHSs is appalling and is fast becoming a national security issue that begs for the attention of well meaning stakeholders such as CSOs like Education Watch, National Peace Council, Parliament as we as religious organisations.

Given the level of government failure to resource SHS across the country following the advent of free education, proper management strategies demands that heads of schools think outside the box by coming out with financial strategies such as what some of them have resorted to doing, to be able to put our schools in order. If such strategies are rather meted out with needless stiff punitive measures by the said ministry as we are seeing now, it is a worry and trouble that demand condemnation by stakeholders.

The measure by the education authorities amounts to scapegoating the heads of schools for apparently no fault committed, and that in itself is unfortunate and condemnable in no uncertain terms.

What is more worrying is the selective stands of the ministry to hide under the cover of violation of directive to scapegoat these heads. The appalling nature of the ministry high handedness makes it a national security issue that must not be taken kindly! It is unfair, unfortunate and condemnable, to say the least.

It is also believed that the ministry is sacking heads who are believed to be politically unaligned to the government of the day. It is further thought that elsewhere some heads believed to be NPP sympathisers are charging more than those whose actions have attracted dismissal, and yet are left to stay at post just because they are believed to be sympathisers of the government of president Nana Akufo-Addo. What is wrong if heads of schools generate monies internally in order to fund minor projects which can help enhance effective teaching and learning in schools? Is the minister saying that now government can single-handedly handle the affairs of public institutions like school without the support of parents, all in the name of free education? If the minister in question or government must know, need we tell them that the ridicule free education has brought upon the government cannot be erased merely by sacking heads of schools for no apparent crime committed.

I wish to end by humbly appealing to the August House of Parliament, especially, the Education Committee in parliament, to as a matter of urgency, expedite action to get the minister to rescind its decision by revoking the needless interdiction of our hardworking innocent heads of senior high schools in the country.
