Who Wins Ghana Golf Open?

This year's Ghana Amateur Golf Championship Open, the most prestigious annual golf competition comes on at the Kumasi Golf course, this Saturday.

The four- day tournament, the 69th edition, is dubbed a tournament with a difference with more than thirty local professional players and others from the sub-region competing for handsome prizes.

Another feature of the tournament is the special youth tourney to select a winner for a world youth tourney in St. Andrews, Scotland.

Available record shows that past winners of the competition were expatriates since they were predominant in the game, However Sam K. Apia, a Ghanaian broke the foreign dominance in 1963. He subsequently won again more times and opened the way for other Ghanaians.

The past Ghanaian winners include; David Abaloo, Jeff Doe Walter Degble, Arkutu, and Amos Korblah. Leticia Omabor, Gisela Opoku, Grace Quartey, Susie Abaloo, Betsy Habermatcher and Mona Captan have also had their turns in taking the women's title.

Silver Star Auto and Japan Motors are jointly sponsoring the four-day competition under the auspices of the Ghana Golf Association.
