Despite the increasing number of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in the municipality (presently pegged at 41) undertaking HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention campaign programmes, the prevalence rate of the deadly disease is still on the ascendancy in Tema.
This was disclosed by the Tema Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. David Quaye Annan at the 3rd Ordinary Meeting of the 4th Session of the Assembly which took place at the Assembly's auditorium last Tuesday.
According to Mr. Annan, about 147 cases of the deadly diseases was recorded at public health institutions in the municipality alone over the last six months, and this calls for all and sundry to show concern about the alarming rate at which the disease was threatening human lives.
He has therefore called for re-examination of the strategies used by all NGOs and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) in their campaign messages in helping to reduce the menace in the municipality to the barest minimum.
