In 2015, Emelia (Not real name) found herself crazily in love with this cool dude which made her thought it was going to last forever.

But what would break the relationship years later wasn’t the many people who opposed the “union” but surprisingly her boyfriend.

What was meant to break this relationship even made it stronger. A lot of people around this couple were not in support of the relationship and wished it had fallen but they were willing to make it work,

“It was a good one; two young people in love –Those against us were plenty but we managed to work it. We all had our issues but no one was perfect,” she told Modernghana in an interview.

Fast forward January 2017, an event that will forever change the status of a blossoming relationship unfolded.

“I went over to see him and when I got there, the place was dirty and I decided to clean only to find a used condom in the dustbin. That was when things started making sense. His attitude starting changing,” she said.

According to her, the then boyfriend had a political appointment which changed his taste in everything including the kind of woman he wanted to be involved with.

So the event led to a quick breakup which marked the beginning of months of pain, neglect, depression, confusion, sorrow and disappointment.

“I wanted to die; what was I going to tell my family since almost everyone knew about us”

It was after crying over him for a week that she realized he (boyfriend) would have been rejected by the new lady but for his political appointment.

She stopped crying at that time but she wasn’t totally over him till 6 months after breakup.

Her life literally came to an abrupt pause as she lost interest in every aspect of her life; friends, work, and hid herself most times.

Tears occupied all parts of her life so she sought for solace in prayers but that was after she unconsciously run into a moving car.

“I was walking and didn't even realise I was crossing the street and walked into a taxi. I remember someone asked if I wanted to die,” she recounted rather solemnly.

After recovering from the heartbreak that nearly took her life, she has this advice for young women, “pay attention to red flags, love yourself first and open your options,”

She hasn’t been any relationship since the incidence because she ‘can’t seem to open up’

She shared her “testimony” on social media to encourage other women too.

Thanks so much Emelia for coming out to share this to inspire other women who may be going through similar ordeal. Wish you all the best in all you do!
