Renowned Ghanaian actor, Chris Attoh, has raised concerns about the quality of content produced by Ghana's film industry, highlighting its impact on the country's limited presence on major streaming platforms like Netflix.

In an interview with the media, Chris emphasised the importance of high-quality content in attracting viewership on streaming platforms.

He noted that while Nigeria and South Africa have made significant strides in this regard, Ghana's film industry is yet to consistently produce content that meets international standards.

Attoh explained that streaming platforms like Netflix prioritise top-tier content that resonates with discerning audiences both locally and internationally.

“It is not about the right content; it is about the quality of the content and Ghana is not producing enough quality content to be able to make it onto these platforms. The reality is, we are such a discerning audience now, not just Ghanaians but the entire world so if you come out with something that doesn’t look good, people can see.

“When you go onto Netflix at the moment, the major content that you find African is from South Africa and also Nigeria. How do we get in the mix, we get in there by things being done the proper way. So, a movie like Nine that has been shot properly should be able to match the kind of movies that Netflix is getting from Nigeria so that when you turn on the TV and you are looking for Ghanaian movies, they are there as well,” he explained.

He referenced his upcoming movie, "Nine," as an example of the kind of high-quality production needed to compete on a global scale.

Attoh stressed the importance of adhering to best practices in filmmaking to elevate Ghana's film industry and secure its place on the global entertainment market.

Attoh urged stakeholders in the Ghanaian film industry to reassess their approach to content creation and prioritise quality over quantity.

"Change is happening all around us, and we can't be left behind. We need to do this well to ensure we hit the excellence mark. This is how the industry will grow, and we can only get there if we make the conscious effort to produce quality," Attoh asserted.
