Anti-Gay Bill: ‘Childish and petty behaviour’ — Sister Derby slams Speaker Bagbin

Deborah Vanessa, who is widely known as Sister Derby, an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana, has criticized Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament.

She described the speaker’s reaction towards the anti-gay bill, which to her, is a “hate bill” as “childish and petty.”

The approval of the new ministerial nominees has been suspended by the Speaker of Parliament due to a recent case against it.

The Speaker’s decision comes after President Akufo-Addo, through his Secretary Nana Asante Bediatuo also instructed Parliament not to transmit the “Proper Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Bill” to his office because of some supreme court lawsuits.

This is a sign of disrespect to the President and disregard for important issues that will benefit Ghanaians, according to Sister Derby.

“When he passed this hate bill that goes
against the Constitution of Ghana, did
our President disrespect him like this?” quizzed the musician in a comment via Instagram on March 22.

She continued: “Current Speaker of Parliament's behaviour can be described as childish and petty; "you took my toy, so I'm also taking yours." Disregarding a whole list of important issues to be discussed in Parliament, that will actually benefit Ghana.”
