Telenovelas, hate, wickedness killed my interest in acting in Ghana — Enoch Watabombshell Darko speaks on why he chose Nigerian movie industry over Ghana

At a tender age, he won the hearts of many Ghanaians when he participated in the kid reality show Talented Kids which was aired on Accra based TV channel TV3.

A child comedian he was at the time, Enoch Darko was always the icing on the cake in all episodes and home viewers and studio audience always had a great deal of entertainment when the cute little man walked up the stage.

Enoch made appearances in a few Ghanaian television series and movies and demonstrated a lot of promising and exciting performances.

However, his sudden extinction from the arts fraternity was questionable as there was not much to see and to be heard of the young entertainer.

His sudden ‘resurrection’ sparked a lot of arguments and people had several questions to ask as to the industry he appeared with.

In his reappearance, Enoch is seen more often in Nigerian movies and with top tier actors and actresses.

ModernGhana entertainment team caught up with Enoch who is currently residing in Nigeria in an exclusive interview.

Speaking to the team the Enoch, an all grown gentleman stated that after his participation in the Talented Kids reality show, certain observations he made as far as the Ghanaian arts fraternity is concerned influenced his decision to relocate to Nigeria after a movie producer discovered him.

“Well, it happened when you know our Ghana movie industry was not vibrant again and people where not seeing my talent more and these problems came when the stations in Ghana were concentrating on telenovelas you see and also producers too had their own problems and some kina wicked things which was going on in the movie industry.

An artist can even say I can’t act with this guy. Hate and pulling down of each other. Producers concentrating on one art to make money making the viewers too tired same story and same people so gradually people were getting tired. Ghana too our movie starts are small.

So was also doing other things stage comedy and fun fairs to make money.......so a Nigeria producer came and saw my talent and took me to Nigeria and I proved myself after he started managing me,” he stated.

When asked of his suggestion on what could be done to make the Ghanaian arts industry a robust one per his experiences in Nigeria, a rather sentimental Enoch Darko expressed that the industry players should embrace innovational ways operation.

“Now the movie world is on digital with the likes of YouTube, Netflix, DSTV that's the ish now. No more CD no more marketing because everything can be done on the digital platforms.”

The young comedian went on to state that for now he may not be visiting the country until he has to see his family or deal with family emergencies.

He added that he will only visit on a work basis should there be a timely revamp in the Ghanaian creative arts industry.

He hilariously stated, “maybe if our Ghana movie industry pick up again cool will come join and that's if they call because when a producer has his money and ready to book me to shoot for him.”

Enoch Darko, now popularly known across Watabombshell went on to hint that he is widely accepted in the Nigerian movie industry and was poised on his impending international collaborations.

“Am doing well I keep getting more famous in Nigeria you know it not easy leaving your country to be famous in another country am doing well we still getting there though we have not reached were we dream to be but we thank God where we are today,” he said.

Currently, Enoch Darko popularly known as Watabombshell has amassed massive acceptance from Nigerian movie lovers and has appeared in movies alongside Patience Ozokwor, Aki and PawPaw, amongst a host of several other movie actors.
