The plight of Ghanaian children living with HIV/AIDS was last week placed on the public agenda with a magnificent concert by the indigenous rhythms devotee, Amandzeba Nat Brew and his group.
Performing at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, Amandzeba raised the thorny issue of children living with HIV/AIDS, some of whom have been orphaned due to the death of their parents from complications relating the deadly virus.
With a jerky rhythm that has been enriched and embellished by the drone of traditional African instruments, Amandzeba went into his own world and dished out tunes that are without doubt nationalistic and probably revolutionary.
Employing diverse ancestral rhythms and sounds, Amandzeba demonstrated his quest for Ghanaian music authencity with compositions that are rent by mighty climaxes of sounds and soothing voices.
