A UK-Based Ghanaian investment banker, Nana Kwekum, has launched a five-year music project under the label, Franco Bella Foundation (FBF), to tap talents of the youth and groom them to bring new life into the music scene in the country.

According to Nana Kwekum, the over ¢100 million project is his contribution to help bring the showbiz industry in the country to an international level, in addition to giving the many unemployed youth the opportunity to access their talents.

In an interview with this paper on Friday, the Chief Executive Officer of FBF expressed his disgust at the rate at which many so-called music producers exploit the talents of many up and coming musicians without recognizing their efforts.

He said although Ghanaian music holds a lot of promise, there is the need for musicians to identify themselves with a particular brand and try to protect that brand always.

A strong believer of quality control, Nana Kwekum, said his initial target is young talented artistes who don’t have the means to come into the limelight, bemoaning how a lot of the lyrics of these youths are being pirated by some unscrupulous producers.

He revealed plans to also move his foundation into other fields to assist unemployed youths to help them realize their dreams.

A coordinator of the project, Jerry Bortier, said the showbiz business in the country is very complicated because of the lack of investment in the industry, asking that “how many of the businessmen you see out there support showbiz”.

He, therefore, charged artistes working under the project to eschew all manner of indiscipline if they want to succeed, saying the business is about listening and learning”.

He said anybody who wants to be part of the project must be serious and show commitment to the dreams and vision set by Nana Kwekum for the foundation.
