GSA Stages Successful National Swimming Open Championship

The Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) with the support of the Trust Sports Emporium Ltd (TSEL) have organized a very successful National Open Championship on Saturday at the Bukom International Pool in Accra.

Over 100 young swimmers representing 9 clubs competed in the events, and they really proved that if they are given time and the necessary training, Ghana is going to be one of the swimming nations in Africa.

The programme which was a dress rehearsal for the 7^th Africa Zone 2 Championship attracted 9 teams namely; the Torpedo Club, Tesano Club, GH Dolphins, Marlins, GH Aquatic Masters, Legon Sharks, African Sharks, Ghana Blue Fins and Felams.

The weather, setting of the venue, performance of swimmers and officials as well as media was on point.

The fans of swimming and spectators also had many fans and enjoyed the races with 11 years old Maurice stealing a part of the show.

National stars, Abeiku Jackson and Kaya Forson were also a delight to watch doing their own thing.

Some officials who spoke to Yours Truly expressed that the event was marvellous.

Madam S. Asafu Adjei a member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the CANA competition said Ghana will once again showcase talented swimmers and good organization. She was highly impressed and content with the programme and urged the media to support swimming.

Mrs Helena Williams of the University of Ghana, who is also one of the most experienced swimming officials expressed that the new pool is unique and has come at the right time as the nation gets ready to host the 2023 African Games. She said Ghana has good young swimmers who can become great stars in the future.

Theo Edzie, president of the Ghana Swimming Association commended the clubs and young swimmers as well as parents who accompanied their kids to come and compete.

He said Ghana Swimming has a great future and encouraged more people to get into swimming.
