Hearts of Oak put up an impressive performance on Sunday, May 19, 2019, to dominate Elmina Sharks in a match week 13 fixture of the GFA Normalization Committee Special Competition that ended 3-1 in favor of the Accra based side.

In an exciting match that produced 4 goals, it was the Phobians that got the better of their opponent to revenge their 1-0 loss to the Sharks on match week 2 of the novelty competition.

Fans had to wait till the 44th minute in the first half of the match before witnessing the first goal of the game. In-form Christopher Bonney stepped up and converted a penalty kick to give his side the lead going into the break.

Some end to end action in the early minutes of the second half produced a goal each from either side, giving Sharks some hope of getting something out of the match. First, academy graduate Umar Manaf connected to a cross to score Hearts of Oak’s second of the day before George Amonoo pulled one back for his side.

Ten minutes later, captain for the Rainbow boys, Fatawu Mohammed’s effort was controversially awarded as a goal when his shot that hit the crossbar was adjudged to have crossed the goal line.

From there on it was all Hearts of Oak as the referee whistled for the end of the match. The win the Phobians has now accumulated a total of 28 points, more than any other team in the two Tier 1 divisions.
