Obuasi Ashanti Gold defeated Berekum Chelsea 2-1 at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday, May 5, 2019, to revive their chances of qualifying to the next round of the ongoing Normalization Committee (NC)Special Competition.

The Miners poor run of form in their last 4 matches left them sinking on the Premier A division standings as they watched on for Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC to boss their way to the top.

Desperately in need of a win to revive their campaign in the novelty competition, the team came from a goal down to beat Chelsea to ensure they grabbed all three points at stake.

Starting off his role as the new manager of Ashgold, Kjetil Zachariassen handed starts to veteran striker Saddick Adams and Daniel Gozar as well as a debut to young prodigy Emmanuel Owusu.

A goal each from the young debutant and Ivorian import Richard Ella Djodi were enough to cancel out and hand the first win to the Norwegian manager who replaced Svetislav Tanasijevic last month.

The win has now seen the Obuasi based club move to 4th position on the Premier A standings with 11 points from 7 matches and an outstanding match which if they win could see them better their current situation.

Up next for Ashanti Gold, they will play leaders Medeama SC on Wednesday at the T&A Park.
