Experienced Football Administrator and bankroller of Neoplan Stars, Jonathan Abbey Pobi is backing the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) to extend the stipulated 6 months timeline given to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Normalization Committee (NC) to discharge their mandate.

According to him, it will be difficult to use just 6 months to reform football in the country which has been brought to its knees by the previous administration who were in power for the last 13 years.

“Some of us are advocating that the Normalization Committee, their mandate should be extended for another six months because we can’t use six months to normalize Ghana football which has collapsed for the past 13 years”, Mr. Abbey Pobi said.

He has also urged the NC not to rush the process of electing a new President for the GFA as he believes they might just end up bringing on board some of the people from the previous administration that stood idle and watched the association to collapse.

“If we dare, within six months say that we are going to elect officers to come and run Ghana football within the six months, then we will bring back the cockroaches”.

“We need time to set up this elections committee and then when the elections committee is set up we have to make sure we go back and see those potentials who wants to be FA Presidents. Their names should be given to EOCO and the BNI to make some background checks before they are vetted”, he said.

The NC since assuming office has supervised a number of National team’s participation in various international competitions. They are yet to review the GFA statutes which many believe is the core mandate of the committee. They are also expected to organize elections to elect a President for the Football governing body before they leave office.

As it stands the NC has about 3 months to execute all mandates given to them by FIFA. It is however unclear whether indeed they will be given an extension after the 31st of March when they finally exhaust their time in office.
