Joetex seeks Champions League goal-scoring feat

By OJEIKERE AIKHOJE, NIGERIA

Ghanaian striker, Joetex Frimpong, who plays for back-to-back African Champions League kings, Enyimba FC of Aba, is confident of setting a goal-scoring feat in the continental competition.

Joetex who presently has a record of 11 CAF Champions League goals scored between the 2003 edition and the 2005 edition told www.ghanaweb.com that the feat is achievable once the group stages begins.

"I am presently having the best of times in the Champions League so it would be nice to set a goal-scoring record in the Champions League with Enyimba.I intend to achieve this to further confirm the superiority of my team in the continent and my skills in front of goal.

"Although I am yet to play in the Africa Cup of Nations for Ghana, I am sure that this record would certainly give me more recognition. Since the commencement of the Champions League I don't think any player has scored 11 goals, so I am glad to be one of the best strikers in the continent.

'Scoring 11 Champions League goals is not a small feat, but I intend to set a mark. Ghanaians should watch out for more of my goals in the continent because I intend to punish the clubs that eliminated Hearts and Kotoko in this compeition," he said.

He lamented that a nagging injury sustained in his team's away win at ASEC in 2003 prevented him from making any appreciable impact in the 2004 edition.

Said he: "I struggled with injury and played a few matches last term so scoring was a big problem. However, I must give thanks to God for making me injury free, this term where I have accounted for five goals."

Incidentally, the Ghanaian scored four goals against Zambian champions, Red Arrows after scoring once against Simba of Tanzania. He scored six times in matches against Satellite of Guinea, Jean d'Arc of Senegal and Simba of Tanzania, respectively during the 2003 edition before injury prevented him from making more goals for his Nigerian outfit, Enyimba.
