London, Oct. 26, (GNA/dpa) - Daniel Sturridge scored twice as Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-1 on Tuesday to reach the quarter-finals of the English League Cup.

Sturridge struck in each half to give the hosts a 2-0 lead at Anfield before Tottenham pulled one back through Vincent Janssen's penalty.

"We had a lot of chances," Sturridge told Sky Sports.

"We played some good football so I think it was a deserved win."

Arsenal, Hull City, Newcastle and Leeds also progressed to the last eight of the second-tier domestic cup competition.

Sturridge opened the scoring from close range in the ninth minute and doubled the lead after being sent through by Divock Origi.

Janssen gave Tottenham a glimmer of hope from the spot but the visitors weren't able to find an equalizer over the final 14 minutes.

"The game was what I expected, in a positive way for us," Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said.

"Then, for part of it, we lost concentration and caused our problems by ourselves.

"Overall, the summary is very positive, a deserved win."

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored both goals as Arsenal beat Reading 2-0 to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 13 games.

Goals from Harry Maguire and Michael Dawson gave Hull a 2-1 win at Bristol City, which got a late consolation from Lee Tomlin.

Aleksandar Mitrovic and Mohamed Diame each scored twice as Newcastle battered 10-man Preston 6-0.

Five of the goals came after Preston's Alan Browne was sent off in the 27th minute for elbowing Jack Colback.

Leeds advanced by beating Norwich 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out.

Marco Silvestri made three saves in the shootout as Leeds overcame playing extra time with 10 men after losing Lewis Coyle to injury having already made their three substitutions.

Alex Pritchard gave Norwich an early lead but Marcus Antonsson equalized before half-time.

Norwich then went back in front in extra time through Nelson Oliveira only to see Chris Wood force the shoot-out.
