Incorporate Taekwondo training in schools – Kweku Sekyi Addo

Ace Journalist Kweku Sekyi Addo has called on schools to incorporate martial arts in their curricular to help mold and shape the discipline of pupils and students.

Speaking as Chairman of the 5th Mission Open Taekwondo Team Championship, he noted that the future is bright for Ghana Sports and commended the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) for their splendid organisation and the high standard of technics put up by the players.

He recommended instructors of Taekwondo to be listed n the security agencies to impart their knowledge and skill as it is not every problem that guns are use. He said the hands and the legs are also weapons.

The Black belt Second Dan who still trains regularly advised that sports is good for projecting nations and it should be an opportunity for one to be selected to perform for the nation.

“Sports is good for physical fitness, self esteem, defence and confidence, it promotes flexibility, so we should all do some form of sports, and encourage the children especially” he advised.

Professor Francis Dodoo, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) said sports promotes comradeship and sportsmanship and Taekwondo is one f the sports that encourage discipline.

He promised that since Taekwondo is an Olympic sport, the federation would benefit from the solidarity fund to train coaches and other offcials of the sport.

The Korean Ambassador of Ghana Lyeo Wan Ko assured the players that his country will keep on supporting Ghana to train disciplined citizens and attract sponsorship.

Mr. Agyin, a Director a the Ministry of Youth & Sports congratulated the GTF for keeping the sport alive and encouraging more children to participate in the popular sport.

He revealed that government alone cannot sponsor sports and called on private enterprises and individuals to support the disciplines.

Alhaji Blackie Bello who sponsored the event congratulated he players and team who made it and promised to contribute to the development and promotion of Taekwondo.

He praised the Media who cover and report on the lesser known sports, however Mr. Fred Lartey Otu President of the GTF bashed the Sports Writers Executives for not honouring their invitations. He however thanked the GOC for recommending some coaches and referees for international exposure.

The President announced that every soon they will issue identity cards to officials, instructors, players and members.

Some of the teams that competed were drawn from Sunyani, Power, University of Ghana, Power Kixx, Rangoon, Accra Poly, Mapro, STI, WAM, Primo and Barnes. Ghana Prisons Service was also represented.
