Belgian-born Ghanaian midfielder Denis Odoi scored a face-saving goal for KSC Lokeren in their 5-1 humiliation against Club Brugge in the Belgian Pro League championships play-off on Friday night.
The 25-year-old pulled a goal back for Lokeren on the 57th minute mark at the Jan Breydelstadion to keep the scoring 2-1 but the host overwhelmed Lokeren by scoring three more goals.
Lokeren, who are pecked second from bottom after their regular season points were halved according to the play-offs rules, were hoping a positive results against Club Brugge but succumbed to defeat.
And Odoi's consolation strike could by means reduce the gravity of the loss. Youngster Eugene Ansah was brought on manager Peter Maes to enjoy the last 9 minutes of the game as the tie had already been lost.
Odoi, a former Anderlecht midfielder and Ansah were both part of the Lokeren side clinched the Belgian Cup trophy last week and have already qualified for the Uefa Europa League for next season.
