Former deputy skipper of the Black Stars, , says in spite of the pedigree of the German national team, the name Black Stars always sends shivers down their spine.

“They are afraid of the Black Stars even though they have a much better team than us” he said, predicting that what the Germans would do when playing against Ghana would be to go all out and attack.

He observed that though the Germans are tactically and physically stronger, the Black Stars stood a brighter chance of qualifying from their group only if they remain focused and committed in their games.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports in an interview in Accra, Yeboah predicted that Ghana could do better in next year’s mundial in South Africa compared to how they did in Germany in 1996.

The former Ghanaian international said the experience the Black Stars gained from participating in the last World Cup makes them one of the favourites in their group. “The Australians and the Serbians play the same style as Ghanaians, but we are ahead of them physically” he said.

He said as a former player in the Bundesliga, he knew the German team quite well and noted that what makes them outstanding from other teams is their mental orientation to go the extra mile to die for their nation.

“That is what the Black Stars lack”, he said, and urged them to be guided by selflessness and the determination to die for the nation, while entreating them to believe in themselves and warned against complacency.

Yeboah, a member of the Black Stars squad that lost to Germany 1-6 in 1993 in what later became known as the Bochum disaster, also cautioned the Black Stars not to underestimate the Germans since that could spell disaster for them.

He also urged Ghanaians to play their role of rallying behind the team, both physically and spiritually to ensure that the team makes the nation proud. Share Your Thoughts on this article Name Email Location Comments Graphic Ghana may edit your comments and not all comments will be published
