IT training giants, NIIT, in partnership with KnowledgeWorkz Limited, has presented a cheque of GH¢2,000 to the Ghana Cricket Association, at its offices on the Ring Road Central in Accra.

At a short presentation ceremony last Monday evening, Mr. Kapil Gupta, Managing Director of NIIT and KnowledgeWorkz Limited, stated that the financial support formed part of his outfit's desire to see cricket grow in the country.

“Cricket has taken an entrenched position in India, and it is our hope that it will do the same here with time, hence our widows' mite,” said Mr. Gupta.

He revealed that he was moved to rally behind the sport, following its current steady progress on the continent in tournaments, and pledged his outfit's continued support.

Mr. P. D. Vanderpuye-Orgle, Chairman of the Ghana Cricket Association, thanked the donors profusely for the gesture, and promised to put the money to judicious use.

He, however, appealed to corporate bodies and individuals, to rally their financial support to the sport, as it strives to turn the fortunes of cricket, not only in Ghana, but beyond the shores of this country. In a related development, the Ghana Poly Group has donated GH¢6,900 for the refurbishment of the Achimota Cricket Oval.

Meanwhile, the curtain on the Diwali Cup will be drawn this Sunday at the Achimota Cricket Oval.
