Kufuor inaugurates Tamale Stadium

President Kufuor has inaugurated the new Tamale Sports Stadium with a call on Ghanaians to show goodwill and hospitality to visitors in the country to watch the Ghana 2008 football matches. He said the Tamale Stadium is a true monument of peace, unity and friendship. President Kufuor noted that Northern Ghana has produced prominent football talents therefore the area deserves such a modern stadium to promote soccer. He mentioned names like Ibrahim Sunday, Abdul-Razak, Baba Yara, Dogo Moro, Mohammed Polo and Abedi Ayew who have made tremendous contribution to Ghanaian soccer. President Kufuor said it is his desire to provide similar stadiums in each of the 10 regional capitals to promote football. He called on the people to take good care of the facility. The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Iddris commended President Kufuor and his government for providing such a magnificent stadium. He tanked the chiefs and people of the region for their contribution to the successful completion of the stadium. He said the stadium which is the biggest investment by government in the region since independent will go a long way to improve on the living status of the people. The Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Professor Dominic Fobih said that the construction of the stadium in Tamale will not only promote sports but also create jobs and improve incomes of the people. The Regent of Gulkpegu, Alhaji Zibrim Abdulai commended government for the number of development projects it has executed through out the region. He appealed to the President to consider presidential initiatives on cotton and rice in the region.
