Envoy Gives To Alhaji Stars
24.12.2007 LISTEN

Ahaji Stars FC, a newly-promoted Second Division club based at Tinguag in the Akwapem North District of the Eastern Region have received a cash donation of ¢5.5 million from the Palestine Ambassador, H.E. Saadi Atuzeiri.

The club used the money in purchasing footballs, jerseys and football boots to be used by the players for their Second Division campaign.

Though Alhaji Stars had been in existence since 1984, they only gained promotion to the Second Division in August 2007.

Bankroller of the club, Alhaji Muftao Mohammed explained to DAILY GUIDE SPORTS that he was the sole financier of the club which consisted of U-12, U-14, U-17 as well as the senior side, and that it was very difficult to run the team all by himself.

So he deemed it necessary to solicit for support from individuals, institutions, churches and philanthropists and it came as no surprise when the Palestine Ambassador came to the team's rescue.

Like Oliver Twist however, he wants to use this medium to seek for more support.

He commended KASAPA, operators of KASAPA mobile phone network, for donating some T-shirts to the team.

Alhaji who is the District Football Association chairman and doubles as National Sports Council (NSC) soccer trainer in the district, appealed to KASAPA again to help fence the team's park.

He also used the opportunity to thank and wish Prince Oduro-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of NSC, Eastern Regional boss of the Regional Sports Development Office (RSDO) and the Regional Football Association chairman, A.A. Lawal a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
