Ghana?s influential midfielder Laryea Kingston has been told that he can be fit before the Black Stars open their Nations Cup campaign next month.

The 27-year-old, who plays for Scottish side Hearts, damaged ligaments in training two weeks ago and consulted a specialist in London on Monday.

The injury prompted talk that the midfielder could miss the tournament which starts in Accra on 20 January.

But further scans in London have confirmed revealed that the injury is not severe, and Kingston has been set a recovery schedule.

Even though doctors say he may struggle to play when the tournament starts, Kingston is confident he can recover in time.

"I am feeling that the leg is improving very fast and I know if by next week I should start jogging," the Hearts midfielder told Ghanasoccernet

The midfielder will return to training next month and should be ready for the Black Stars pre-tournament camp which starts on 3 January in Dubai.

Kingston will arrive in Accra this week before travelling with the technical team to Dubai.
